Artificial Intelligence (AI) is already a part of your life whether you know it or not. More than likely, you have already engaged in AI, but just didn't realize it.

It is already in operations of education, the workforce, entertainment, social media and based on the state of the people in government, you can bet it's there too just to name a few.

Education:

Students are already figuring out how to look up answers to difficult questions by using ChatGPT. While teachers are all up in arms about this, educators must learn how to help students navigate through this new waive of technology responsibly. It's important for instruction to teach the basics and contain some rigor, so that a student's cognitive ability to think can certainly be enhanced. They need to understand how to have breadth and depth of thought as they mature into adulthood or go to college. Keep in mind that our children are the future. They will be running businesses, become entrepreneurs, or choose a certified profession such as an attorney or doctor. Whatever the path, we need them to be able to be focused and accurate in their craft. Statewide and national assessments are beginning to create and grade using AI generative processes; and the feedback given to the students is quite impressive. In their coursework, feedback is used by students to make the necessary and thoughtful changes to their authentic work and develop a better product. At least that's the optimal goal. The use of AI may challenge teachers with the understanding of how to be creative with it's content for instruction or even how to spot plagiarism. However way we look at it, education is here to stay and educators are still needed to teach, train, and provide wise guidance to the next generations of learners. They may need to add to their toolbox by learning some new some new AI tools.

Workforce:

Consider the speed of communication these days compared to some 50 years ago, or back to when computers even launched. Check out this article by Life Science about the history of computers: https://www.livescience.com/20718-computer-history.html. In all actuality, the term "artificial intelligence" was coined in the 1950s at Dartmouth College. We've come a long way into the advancement of technology, and its uses in our lives. I'm old enough to remember cash registers when shopping. Now we have point-of-sale (POS) systems. Just lay your credit card on a little square box or on a screen and away you go with the goods or services to enjoy. We like it quick and easy. There's great benefits to the businesses for this as well. They can manage inventory, financials, costs factors, analytics, leads, and so much more by integrating complimentary automated systems with AI. One can see a downsize to this, as it my impact our workforce. Think about your last visit to a super grocery store, you might notice several self-checkout lanes, in additional to the staffed manned checkout lanes. It's a matter of choice, but it also cuts down on the number of employees needed. But then a new opportunity arose with food delivery transportation services, like Uber, who are able to use interactive technology to connect you with the driver. As tech gurus learn how to code using AI generative systems, the efficiency and earning opportunities will be mind blowing.

Entertainment and Social Media:

Content creators are having a field day through the uses of AI, especially on social media platforms. As I scroll through Facebook, I'm starting to see a trend that uses celebrity voice-overs, advertisements, images, and even short films. A trained eye can really spot the imperfections in some of the content. But as these platforms are further developed, there will be a crisper presentation of material, and it will become more difficult to spot inauthentic messaging or creation. For this reason, I advise one to be very careful with whom you do business online. People are being targeted for immersive and interactive experiences based on their profile, online search history, and social media click patterns. Social media is so clever with their analytics, that they can capture everything about your interests and even your location. In deed, there are many responsible uses in entertainment and social media. It's up to us to screen carefully, especially if we have kids. They are quick to be impressed with colorful, image building, and action oriented content.

Government:

Probably some of the best uses of AI would absolutely be for municipality services. With some 340 million residents in the United States, according Data Commons as of 2024, government agencies have found ways to manage the immense amount of data more efficiently by using integrated automation with the help of AI platforms. Have you recently been on telephone hold? The multiple prompts (which is basically a flow pathway) are designed to guide you to your solution without having to talk to a representative, but if necessary, you may find yourself listening to Muzak, or some other background music system, until someone is available. The considerations of how to improve heath and public services, enhance public safety, manage stop lights, or even strengthen accountability are all possibilities with the use of artificial intelligence. However, when it comes to our lives and privacy, our government is now considering how to place restrictions on how AI can be used for those purposes. According to the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL), "Federal and state leaders have jumped into action to understand current uses of AI and to measure its impacts. This activity has shown that leaders are carefully considering the risks, while exploring how new technology can transform government operations. Over the next few years, states and the federal government can expect continued rollout of AI use requirements and guidance, alongside increased adoption of these tools."
